So the day has finally arrived, Kate and I (Annette) are off on our European vacation (well, to France anyway!). The Italian volleyball team was on our flight - apparently being super-tall is a requirement for playing professional volleyball, who knew?
One of the team officials sat next to us on the aisle seat and must have had excellent bladder control as he only chose to get up once in 14 hours, and slept almost the whole flight, making for a rather uncomfortable time for us. I took an opportunity when I saw his eyes open briefly to climb across.
So Paris is at the tail end of a deluge which didn't stop just because we arrived. After making our way from the Metro station to our Air BnB apartment (which I highly recommend, contact me for details) and changing into dry clothes, we decided to walk aimlessly to get our bearings. Our apartment is surrounded by restaurants, bakeries, cheese shops etc so we're spoiled for choice in the food department. We ate a lovely dinner (I had slow cooked lamb and baby roast potatoes, Kate had honey pistachio duck) then attempted to combat our jet lag. While Kate went straight off as soon as her head hit the pillow, I had more trouble, due mostly to an aching hip problem (ah, the joys of old age).
