Lots of skulls and stairs

So still feeling the effects of jet lag, we set off to tour the catacombes. We needed to walk down a lengthy spiral staircase (the first of many to come!) to reach the underground tunnels. This is where they decided to put a bunch of human remains when they needed more room several hundred years ago, and they did a bit of decorating while they were at it. The bones are arranged beautifully with the skulls arranged in shapes like hearts. Fascinating and creepy at the same time.
Next, we decided to climb the stairs of the Arc de Triomphe (yes they were spiral stairs!). From the top we get a bird's eye view of the crazy driving skills you need to drive in Paris - it's basically a giant roundabout with about 5 lanes of traffic and no lane markings. Contrary to our rules, it seems that you give way to people entering the roundabout,  so the traffic flow stops to allow more cars to enter, then it's every man for himself! After that it's a short stroll down the Champs Elysee to see how the other half lives.
Today everyone's celebrating the summer solstice so there are bands playing and people dancing in the street, and the restaurants and cafés are full. We decide to pick up a slice of pizza on our way home. Apparently we clocked up over 32,000 steps today!
