It would have been nice to sleep in but breakfast was quickly followed by a brisk walk in sunshine to the train station, bound for Santiago. We, by which I mean not me, figured out how to buy the tickets and off through the hills and countryside we sped. After days of miserable but good exercise weather, today the sun was shining. We arrived in next to no time and set off to find cathedral number 1001 of our journeys. The trip as usual was hindered by Google maps being confused with all the winding streets. We did however stumble upon a religious parade through the narrow streets, which was well worth the admission, had there been any.
I am writing this post almost a day and a half later, and only hours after visiting number 1002, so I'm struggling a bit to remember the cathedral. There may be pictures, but I will confidently say there were high ceilings, stained glass, lots of crosses, and I have no idea how they built it.
A lunch of crepes followed, only because my desire for pizza from a vending machine was vetoed.
Back to the station we scurried, once more getting lost, arriving in the nick of time to use the facilities, buy tickets and catch the slow train back. By slow I'm talking 155 kmh.
I had had it with meat and 1 veg and just needed a Chinese meal. After finding the designated restaurant, we waited for opening time of 8 pm. We waited until 8:10 pm and when there was no sign of opening in sight, headed for Plan B, which the interweb says has excellent deep fried ice cream. Yes they did, but the bitter sweet and lemon sauce dishes lacked any flavour. However the rice was good and vegetables in the system were very welcome.
Back home to finish packing and prepare for a 5:30 am wake up call tomorrow.
