Having rejected the hotel's kind offer of breakfast for Aud$37 per person, we tucked into our box of beere und apfel hafer muesli and UHT milk that we purchased at a local supermarket yesterday. I will leave the translation up to you. My German language knowledge was pretty much learned from watching Hogan's Heroes but so far "ja vol herr commandant" is yet to be required.
My main thought process for the entire day has been trying to remember the names of all the pubs that were visited during the show. I am trying hard not to do a google search. Is hauserhoff one of them?
We are still in the caffeinated part of jet lag therapy, so coffee and chocolate are high on the list of consumables (unless you are a tea person). Loaded up on the above, Revvies and a previously purchased can of Flying Power from Aldi at 0.29 euros, we headed for our tour bus.
We needed the steps as we failed to make 30,000 yesterday, so walked through a very quiet city at 08:30. Turns out, it's a public holiday.
Our tour leader was Pedro from Mexico (of course). Yesterday's walking tour was run by Jax from England.
First stop was a palace with nice gardens (Linderhof). 📸 will tell the story. The highlight was an American taking a picture of a fountain who said "smile" just before taking the pic.
On the way, we drove through Oberammergau, a village famous for its once every 10 years Passion Play. The buildings are painted with murals of stories like Little Red Riding Hood.
At Neuschwanstein, it's a shuttle bus or horse and cart up to the top if you decline the walking option. We went the bus option.
Ed: The inside of the castle was incredible and so interesting - every surface was painted with either murals or patterns (unfortunately no photos allowed inside). It wasn't gold and gaudy like Versailles. There were several unusual features, like an artificial grotto outside the main bedroom and a column that looked like a palm tree.
