Day one proper

Bags dumped, it was into the city to have a look around. 11:08, the first pastry was consumed. We checked out the glockenspieland headed to a museum where they gave the explanation of events leading to the second world war.... I put it up there with the Killing Fields tour as depressing places I have been (Editor's note: nowhere near as graphic as the Killing Fields).
From here it was a walk back to the town centre, where we joined a 2 hour walking tour. It was good apart from the cold and wind and annoying rain. Many umbrellas turned inside out during the tour.
At 4:30 it was decided that the soup restaurant was the place for dinner. We walked back to our hotel, relaxed, checked out the internet and discovered that the soup restaurant closed at 6pm. Annette decided on schnitzel as  replacement and Andy's Krablergarten was the choice.
Wanting to get our money's worth for the day transport pass, we caught a tram, and then another, after Google maps lied to us, to arrive at Andy's to a sort of substantial line waiting to get in. We persevered, and after a 20 minute wait, got a table. A schnitzel was delivered 10 minutes later, that looked like it had been made out of an entire cow. Please note, if you eat at Andy's, do what we did and have just a pretzel with meat and a pickle for lunch as you are going to need the stomach space.
Also, get the salad as a side, as with any Man versus Food challenge, carbs are not your friend. We estimated that the plate was 30cm wide:That is before and after. Many people, including us, left with our meal leftover wrapped in foil. Back to the hotel for some well-deserved sleep.
