Within 2 seconds of placing my order, I realised my mistake. The man took the long bread roll, put it on the grill over the hot coals, and turned it until ready. He put it in a bag, I paid 10,000 and I ate most of that long bread roll on the way back to the food court. You see, boys and girls, bahn mi can also mean just the bread roll.
Back at the court I ordered a trio of bahn mi from a picture menu.
I went back to my room, took out the left over plain roll, found a boiled egg in my bag, and ate all of the food that I had.
OK, let's get on with the day. I gave the soup one more go, and regretted it.
At 0730 we hopped on our mini bus and headed through the traffic on our way to a trip on the Mekong Delta and a visit to some islands. Every stop was a different food group. Fruit, lollies, honey tea, and a banquet. The islands were full of fruit trees and flowers. We travelled on 3 types of boats, small, smaller and canoe.
I'm not a fan of wine, and rice wine and banana wine are not my cup of tea, but when they come out of a container with a dead snake in it, you just have to try it. It tasted like yuk, as did the snakeless coconut wine.
We sped around the islands in golf cart type vehicles and rickety old vehicles.
A good day was had by all, and possibly a report on the dinner cruise will follow.
Editor's note: the dinner cruise was quite nice but I struggled to keep my eyes open after a busy few days. After a nice Vietnamese buffet meal, the onboard entertainment included extremely loud high pitched singing and belly dancing so we made our way to the upper deck for conversation and sightseeing.
