OK. Onto the bus at 8am to visit the Royal Palace. Our guide was very honest about his opinions about everything Cambodian and I am going to leave it at that. Maybe big brother is out there and maybe not.
From there it was to the Killing Fields. No commentary, no photos. Just that it is probably the saddest place I have ever visited.
Then to a very nice banquet lunch. A bit different than the Vietnamese meals so a welcome surprise. At lunch I was informed that our next stop, the Central Markets, had an east and west wing dedicated to fabric. On arrival we were given 55 minutes. The place was huge with many entrances and offshoots but with 20 minutes shopping time left some fabric was found. Alas. Only 3.2m long and we all know you need 4m for a dress. The little old lady serving did indicate that she could have more delivered but it was just too hard. We left. I suggested we go back to see when she could get more, and there appeared before our eyes, the fabric that was the dress to be. Thank Buddha.
We skipped the last part of the tour to the genocide museum. It just didn't seem like the place we wanted to visit.
Back to the hotel for a swim or treadmill run, depending on who you were.
Then a whatsapp message that many in the group were heading to The Banana something or other restaurant, which was a motor bike ride away. They pulled a little trailer which seated 4, but ours somehow squeezed in 5. Our driver was insane.
He kept stopping for us to take pictures, to sing and basically do anything except get us to the restaurant. When we arrived, eventually, it was booked out. After a 10 minute wait we got in. This place was recommended by our guide. I would have much preferred somewhere in walking distance. I had a burger and fries. Pretty ordinary stuff, but the mango smoothy was good.
