I am sure that I heard our 2 tour guides say that today was an easy drive. We left later than expected as young people need their sleep.
So off we set on our easy drive. I thought we were doing the Circle of Kerry right from the start. I was wrong.
We drove along the coast, stopping at fort ruins, beehive huts, and a pub for lunch. It was maybe 2.30pm. In my mind the day was done. No? We were now driving to find the start of the Circle which was some 90 minutes away. We stopped by to see Ross Castle and use the facilities. The older and wiser travellers took this option, whilst one of the travellers would regret the refusal of the option.
Finally we hit the Circle. One lane, two ways, sheep sharing the road. Mountains, Rivers , Streams, magnificent scenery.......so they tell me. I was focusing on not killing us all so will wait for the photos. Stopping for said photos was interesting to say the least. There were tiny cuttings along the way in an attempt to avert head ons.
Then the French voice said "I have to pee". The Aussies among us then came up with all the wee and pee puns we could summon until it was too much and Claire disappeared up the mountain to be one with nature, or perhaps to do number ones with nature.
We continued until we were waved down by another car that was luckily stopped in the only place I could pass. Seems like they had a flat tyre and couldn't get the spare out. How many tourists does it take to change a flat tyre? Six, plus the local who drove by half an hour later and got the tyre out and did all the work.
Now running extra late, we stopped and started many times as the sun set. Our good Samaritan stop had landed us in the Best spot in Black Valley.........so they tell me.
Through the darkness and between the hedges we drove until finally we pulled into The Pink Pig just outside Dingle. It was around 10pm. Yep, a short drive of 12 hours indeed.
I can't wait to see the photos.
