The Irish Car Rally

Patrick our host asked if we wanted bacon and eggs. Is that a trick question? I asked.

I think that I drove more today than any other day in my life. Long drives on roads with hedges brushing the mirrors and only enough room for 1 car, even though it was a dual carriage way. These were barely navigable in daylight and at night time it was a barrel of laughs.  There was only one incident where screaming was heard from  the back seats.  Good thing that Jeremy was wearing his brown undies. The speed limits are ridiculous. 80kmh on a road only just wider than the car....and it's two ways. Encounters with tour buses on the 100kmh roads were exciting. These roads are wide enough to squeeze in 2 cars with a space the width of a credit card left over. Not sure how I keep managing to stall the car going around roundabouts, but it has been 1 year since my love affair with manuals stopped. I did manage to head off down a one way street the wrong way only once but the taxi driver going the right way looked like he had seen it all before. We did manage to make our way to the Cliffs of Moher, the scene of a Harry potter sighting. There were many small town stops and stopping where stopping should not happen for the shutter bugs among us. When I was advised that the ocean was a few centimetres to my left and a long way down, I was sort of glad our journey was so long that it was dark and I couldn't see.

Not surprisingly the little towns are filled with Irish signs. O'Leary, O'dea, O'Connor and O'Ptician to name a few.

I can't recall ever having a driving day like it. Great scenery, co pilots, the dj in the back seat doing an all right job, and the discovery of Pepsi Max Ginger at lunch time (3pm) just made my day

Excellent spotting of Tesco by Claire at 6.30 pm allowed us to buy food for dinner. It was just a pity that we still had a 3 hour drive until we drove into the Pink Pig at Dingle.

It's now 8.10 the next morning. I have showered and am the only one awake, wondering how to wake everybody up. I can hear the wind and rain and cold outside. Yep, you know it's cold when you can hear it.  Not sure what's planned, but I bet it wasn't sleeping in. If I wake everybody up and it's not a long day, I'm bad. Such a dilemma.

Time to start making a noise I think, although the sneezing has done nothing.
