Given the choice of picking a platform or direction that our train or bus will travel, we have consistently picked the wrong one. We have been up and down the same escalators and stairs many times as the fight between reality and Google maps continues. In a 50/50 chance, we are correct about 10% of the time.
We did get our tickets checked on a train by a plain clothes inspector. Good that we spent the money for a ticket.
I had a vague idea of what the Berlin Wall was about but today left me a lot more enlightened and also confused by idiots from the past.
After a morning of looking at the wall, we returned back to our apartment for lunch. I really needed hot chips but decided against them when I used my outstanding maths skills to work out size divided by cost of said cooked spuds equalled potential disappointment. There must be an equation out there somewhere, and if not, it could be my life's work.
The subway system has many entrances and exits to the same station. It was just fate that our first exit in the arvo travels brought us to here:
Chips with garlic oil is what Google translate came up with. They were, and they were very good.
Everything we saw was free and one even had toilets for free (jackpot).
The editor will note the places at some stage soon: Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag dome and the Topography of Terror.
Finally finished for the day, we hopped on a bus for maybe 7 stops ... in the wrong direction. But it was near a train, because everywhere is, so we trained instead.
That is when we saw our first drug deal.
The dealer was sitting next to a guy drinking a bottle of wine. He had a razor blade and a suspicious white powder that he was dividing up as the train was going. At a stop, he handed over the goods to the guy across the aisle and facing Annette, in exchange for cash. I wanted to take pics but sometimes you have to use common sense.
We purchased a giant sausage roll and a spinach and cheese pastry, which, when added to the bulk salad we have in the fridge, makes everything seem healthy.
I think that's the day. I will check the pics for the day.
See you again on Bruce Springsteen Wednesday.
