Bruges

A 20,000 step day is tough, but the only hills encounter was going back home in Brussels, so that's a positive.
I hit the wall around 2:30 when my legs refused to walk.
It's so nice and leafy around here.
I got initiated into the morning tea club today, because not having waffles in Belgium is apparently a crime. Despite the cost, and I'm not publishing it in case I scare you from visiting, they were outstanding.
I am intrigued by the mixture, which is more like a dough and not the usual runny batter-like substance.
Rest assured that Google will be consulted and a recipe formulated in early July (as soon as I return because after that it's diet time). There are canals, bridges, windmills and, of course, churches. We saw some of the places where 'In Bruges' was filmed and now have to go back and watch the movie.
A last stop to buy chocolates from a little chocolate shop (once more the criminal rule was used) as our day came to an end.We were also lucky enough to find some public toilets where the turnstile just let you in without payment. We were repeat users. Sometimes the saying 'there is light at the end of the tunnel' cannot be truer.
By 4pm we were done. Onto our train for a quick nap, a long search for mince in a Carrefour Express, and pasta with garlic bread and salad (with my now famous home made balsamic dressing) for dinner. A big shout out to the garlic bulb which has been with us since Munich. Not only has it added to our meals but also kept my spare pair of shoes freshly scented during travel days.
Some leftovers from yesterday's afternoon tea and it's now after 10 and I need to sleep ... except it's still light outside because this hemisphere is insane.
