We left our accommodation an hour before our due train departure to Berlin so that: A. We could find our platform in time or B. We could get a croissant to eat on the train? Trick question, it's A and B. B completed, we waited in front of the indicator screen for news. Then out of nowhere this guy comes up to us asking if we are going to Berlin. We advised we were and he said to follow him as the train was now going from platform 6. It was like we had to get there quick. He wanted to take our bags but we knew enough not to hand our bags to a stranger.
He looked at his phone and told us to follow him. He stopped on the way to check screens. He was going quickly and when we got to the stairs of platform 6, he said he could carry our bags up as it was his job and he was strong. Both of us were confused as he didn't have any train employee clothes on. He got us to the exact spot the carriage would be and then asked for 15 for each bag. Not prepared and after he said something about work, or as he said "I am working", Annette gave him a big fat no and his response was ... cue the Czech voice  "Fuck you" and he quickly ran of to entrap more stupid tourists.
Were we in the right place? Annette went to check and came back to confirm it was indeed platform 6. As with all European trains, we had trouble finding our carriage and the steps onto the train are really big, but we learned from last year and our bags are smaller. We got our bags in the storage racks and spent the next 4 hours watching a game of musical chairs as people who hadn't booked a seat kept getting kicked out of their seat by someone who had booked a seat. There were views as well.
Four hours later we were in Berlin.
Step 1, buy a public transport day pass and step 2 find a train and platform.
The train and platform thing is hard but we will get better at it. We found our train, walked to our bag storage location, and then spent 4 hours wandering to the Brandenburg Gate, eating our lunch made in the Czech Republic and then buying supplies.
It's a public holiday in Berlin (so most shops are closed) and it seems as though every one is in the same shop. It wasn't Aldi (which makes me sad) and there were multiple lines that stretched almost the length of the shop. Also cigarettes and alcohol at the checkout.
We found our apartment, cooked dinner, refused the opportunity to use the cold water only that the shower was offering, figured out how to cast from my phone to the TV and watched another episode of Duster from my download from Max (we can't get Max here).
Off to sleep with the hope of hot water tomorrow.
Oh, don't forget that we are here to see Bruce, so in the afternoon we made our way to the Olympic Stadium to make sure we knew how to get there. People were already there in RVs and camped out waiting, more than 2 days before the concert.
